Pilot Projects Approved in Siliguri
Following recommendations from the visits by the experts and understanding the local needs, the pilot projects below, have been approved in Siliguri
Currently, there is lack of a robust mechanism in Siliguri for detecting leaks in the water distribution mains. This project aims at developing this mechanism through the use of acoustic leak detection instruments. Two such units will be procured and city officials will be trained in usage of the same. As a pilot, the instruments will be used to carry out leak detection study in one zone in the city by the implementing agency.
Solid waste management and resource recovery are minimal presently in Siliguri. Through this project, an integrated solid waste management system will be demonstrated in two wards in Siliguri. The system will focus on at source segregation and the principles of 3Rs. This pilot project will help the Siliguri Municipal Corporation in effective management of the solid waste, enable better resource recovery, reduce pressure on the existing dump site. These activities, which will help the wards become ‘swachh wards’, also fall in line with the Swachh Bharat goals of the city.
These air quality monitoring units will help to monitor PM 10 and PM 2.5 on a regular basis in the city of Siliguri. The units will be set up in different parts of the city, especially in busy traffic junctions. The data generated from this monitoring will help the city government take actions to improve the air quality in the city.
