Water resources in urban areas of India are significantly stressed due to high water demand and complex consumption patterns within small but densely populated areas and local level solutions are essential for sustainable water management. Around 80% of the water supply flows back into the ecosystem as wastewater which is a critical environmental and health hazard. Proper treatment, management and reuse of wastewater will help cities in reducing their local water demand.
