Energy
- In India, almost 69% of the GHG emissions are from the energy sector, out of which 49% of the emissions are attributed to electricity consumption and heat generation. The urban demand for electricity has been growing rapidly and local governments should strive to meet this demand with cleaner and often cheaper renewable sources of electricity generation.
- CapaCITIES project is supporting city climate actions in energy sector:
- In Rajkot, feasibility study was undertaken to develop bankable project for captive use by municipal facilities which will reduce GHG emissions and energy cost for municipal corporation.
- Provided technical support and invested in Rajkot city’s pilot Solar PV installations in a social housing building and in Aji Water Treatment Plant that demonstrated effective use of rooftop space available with the municipal corporation.
